Sustainable Cities, Fall 2018

The following project was created in a seminar focused on urban planning and design principles. After studying urban planning/design literature and case studies, I worked in a group to create a design intervention for a section of Oberlin, Ohio.

The Western Entryway: Reimagining the five-way intersection

I worked with four other students to redesign an underutilized intersection at the Western entryway of Oberlin. After conducting site visits and talking with several people with knowledge of the area, we identified a vision and a design. Our revitilization plan for the area re-envisions this location as an identifiable entryway into the city that emphasizes connectivity, social equity, economic development, sustainability, and community. We considered the incremental implementation of various design features, along with a public participation plan that would include the existing community in the design and implementation process.

Within the group, I created the maps and renderings to present our ideas in a visual format.
