Project Link
In the summer of 2014, I participated in Project Link, an architecture and design course for high school students in the Boston area. The four-week intensive program was run by the Harvard Graduate School of Design. The class started with some smaller projects to introduce the basic skills of architecture and design, and culminated in a group and individual project where we addressed a real life situation and found a solution for it.
Path
Inspired by the sensory experience of walking through Harvard Yard blindfolded, this path simulates the warmth and chill of walking through shade and sun with the light coming in through the slats between each arch. The path narrows and widens, just as my experience being blindfolded narrowed my perception of the world and then widened as I got used to the dark.
Park and Restaurant
I collaborated with three other students to redesign a busy intersection in Malden, MA to have a park and a more accessible intersection. We surveyed the site, interviewed local residents, and drew from their suggestions to create the park. The purpose of this project was to make the intersection safer and provide a place where the community could come together.
The second part of the project was to create four individual businesses/homes that would fit in with the needs of the community and the park. This restaurant has an apartment above it, with the most essential part of the restaurant - the kitchen - highlighted through bold colors and different materials.
